bird is the word

i am thrilled by the swooping presence of purple headed finches as they flit from bough to bough, to the ground and back up again.

unfortunately, they are less than thrilled with my bird feeder, which, in its zealous safeguards against squirrels has created a platform that even the smallest of winged creatures has problems simultaneously perching on and making an effort to eat whilst precariously balanced. i've placed an antique bowl of seeds on the ground, hoping that the birds might get to it before the above mentioned squirrels.

i am sure that mother nature has one more- or maybe three more, knowing the area- winter blasts to send us. but in the meantime, i'm wearing my flipflops and being thrilled by the birds.
